Vestforbrænding operates Denmark’s largest plant for incineration of waste. All waste, which is not recycled and which is suitable for this treatment option, is incinerated.

We see waste as a resource in line with other energy sources. Waste incinerated substitutes the use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas. In 2008 we incinerated around 563,000 tonnes of waste.

Waste is incinerated in our four incineration furnaces at the plant in Glostrup west of Copenhagen with a total capacity of 600,000 tonnes a year:

  • Plant 6 incinerates around 35 tonnes of waste per hour. This furnace was commissioned in 2005.
  • Plant 5 incinerates around 26 tonnes of waste per hour. This furnace was commissioned in 1999.
  • Two old furnaces each incinerate around 12 tonnes of waste per hour. These furnaces were commissioned in 1970.
